What is the onboarding experiences?

Product onboarding is the process of introducing users to a new product and its features, helping them understand how to use it effectively and efficiently. A good product onboarding experience should be intuitive, engaging, and provide the necessary information and guidance for the user to start using the product effectively. Key components of a successful product onboarding experience include clear and concise explanations, interactive tutorials, onboarding flows, helpful resources, and the ability to give feedback. The goal of product onboarding is to ensure that users are able to quickly and effectively adopt and utilize the product, leading to increased satisfaction and overall success.

The 4 phase experience in Octalysis Framework

The fourphases are: Discovery, Onboarding, Scaffolding, and Endgame.

During Discovery, users become aware of the gamified experience and are attracted to it. Onboarding is the stage where users are introduced to the mechanics of the game and are taught how to play. Scaffolding is the process of gradually increasing the difficulty of the game to keep users engaged and motivated. Also users have developed expertise and are challenged to apply it in new ways. Finally, the Endgame is when users are encouraged to continue playing by offering rewards and incentives.

How to define business metrics for onboarding experiences?

First is to determine what you want the onboarding process to achieve. Most of the objectives include increasing user engagement, reducing churn rate, improving user proficiency with the product, or encouraging specific behaviors like upgrading to the premium user.

Here are some of the metrics that you can use for tracking your product’s goal.

The basic metric is the Retention Rates, this can track how long a user stay with the product after going through the onboarding process.

Another key metric is that you can track how average time a new user to perform a significant action within the product.

Conversion rate is an important metrics for a freemium model, this can track a user onboard to a premium state so that we can start generate revenue.

After that we will need to pay attention to monitor and analysis if we have achieve our goal, or something we need to modify.
